Mescitlerin süslenmesi Hz.
Peygamberin vefatından sonra ortaya çıkmış bir olgudur. Hz. Peygamber
aleyhisselâm hayattayken mescitleri sade ve gösterişten uzak bir yapıda inşa
etmiştir. Bununla birlikte ümmetinin kendisinden sonra mescitleri süsleyeceğini
ve bununla övüneceklerini ifade etmiştir. Hz. Peygamber ve sahâbîlerden gelen nakiller mescitlerin süslenmesinin
hoş karşılanmadığını gösterse de alimlerin büyük bir kısmı mescitlerin
süslenmesinde sakınca görmemişlerdir. Sakınca görenler rivayetleri olduğu gibi
kabul ederken caiz olduğu görüşünde olanlar maksat ve hedef tespit etmeye
gayret etmişlerdir. Mescitlerin süslenmesinin tasvip edilmeme gerekçesi olarak
sanatsal bir karşı çıkış olmadığı noktasında hemfikir olan bu ilim insanları, rivayetlerin
gerçekte Müslümanların dünyevileşmelerine işaret ettiğini ve mescitlerin asıl
fonksiyonunu icra etmekten uzak zamanların yaşanacağına atıf yaptığını
savunmuşlardır.
Decoration of mosques is a phenomenon that
emerged after the death of the Prophet Muhammad. While the Prophet was alive,
he built mosques in a simple and unpretentious style. He also stated that his
ummah would decorate the mosques after him and they would be proud of it.
Although the narrations from the Prophet and his companions show that the
decoration of mosques is not welcome, most of the scholars did not see any harm
in decorating the mosques. While those who found it objectionable accepted the
narrations as they were, those who thought they were permissible tried to
determine the purpose and target. These scholars, who agree that there is no
artistic objection as a reason for disapproving the decoration of masjids, have
argued that the narrations actually point to the secularization of Muslims and
refer to the times when masjids will be far from performing their main
function.
